New Book Teaches Children Danger of Hubris

Young adult fiction has grown by 25 percent since 1999, according to Slate, and the rise in popularity of teen novels like Twilight and Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games only proves the statistic. The reading habits that generate this kind of interest among teens are built when children are younger, and it is to that age group that author and educator Lynette Noel offers her new book The Night Nopat was Left Out (published by AuthorHouse).
Nopat was a lively 15-year-old who liked to be in the thick of things. Whenever anything was happening at home, you can bet that he was either the cause of it or the instigator. He believed that nothing should take place without him taking the lead in it.

Nopat is on top of his world. A skilled basketball player, he is often chosen by his classmates for games. The only problem is his ego, which soon costs him an important game. Soon his troubles widen as his ego begins to cost him fun and even friends. Will he learn his lesson in time?
I was working with adolescents, Noel says, to engage them in the writing process. I wanted to create a piece of literature that boys could enjoy, relate to and be willing to share with their friends.
About the Author
Lynette Noel is an instructor in reading at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. She has taught at all levels of the education system, and facilitated workshops there, in Barbados, Bermuda and the U.S. Her passion for literacy and the academic improvement of adolescents has propelled her to create resources that engage students and help them see reading and writing as enjoyable literate experiences. In 2010 Noel received the CBIE Scholarship for research, which she pursued at Mount Saint Vincent University
