On Thin Ice Book Promo

On February 19th, 1990 more than fifty people responded to the rescue of four teenagers who fell through the ice in the middle of a High Sierra lake. The teenagers were from a nearby Juvenile Group Home on a holiday outing. Seven people died in this heroic rescue. Over the following days, poignant photographs of the search and rescue efforts fed the media as this heartbreaking story became international news. Rather than an ending, though, The Story of the Convict Lake Rescue opens the door to a gripping tale that spans the next two decades. This true story leads into a maze of greed, exploitation and abuse revealing an out-of-control, billion-dollar, Troubled Teen Industry, its powerful lobby, and the battle in the halls of Congress over stopping child abuse in residential Camps and Schools throughout the United States. On Thin Ice is a tribute to the first casualties of that war.
