Virginia E. Feldman, M.D., of Hudson Valley ENT, Offers Resolutions toward Better Health in 2012

Middletown, NY (PRWEB) January 09, 2012
Now that the leftovers are finished, gifts have been put away, and guests are gone, its time to dedicate time to yourself. Dr. Virginia E. Feldman, managing partner of Hudson Valley Ear, Nose, & Throat offers resolutions for a healthier 2012.
Manage your allergies. Remove clutter and dust and vacuum your home regularly. Purchase dust-mite-proof covers for your pillow, mattress, and box spring. Schedule an evaluation with an allergy specialist if allergies are affecting your quality of life.
Make an appointment to check your hearing, especially if you notice a change. Hearing loss can begin as early as the teen or young adult years. Consider visiting a New York State licensed audiologist if you consistently have trouble hearing conversations, music, or other sounds, make an appointment with an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor.
Turn down the volume. Protect your hearing by controlling the volume of sound coming through your headphones, ear buds, or speakers. The louder the music, the more damage it can cause. Consider using noise-reducing earplugs at parties with loud music, as well as when youre working with noisy equipment such as snow throwers and chain saws.
Spend your holiday gift cards on new headphones or ear buds. Noise-cancelling headphones eliminate background noise so that you can listen to music at a lower volume. A hearing specialist can fit you for custom ear molds that hold ear buds in place and help block out noise.
Toss out the cotton swabs. Trying to clean your ears with a Q-tip, matchstick, hair pin, or other pointed object can force earwax further into the ear canal and may cause damage.
Come back to the bedroom. If snoring whether your own or that of a loved one is keeping you up at night, consider consulting with a sleep specialist who can diagnose the cause and recommend treatment.
Take good care of your teeth. In addition to brushing, floss once a day to clean between your teeth and improve the health of your gums. If you havent been to the dentist in more than six months, schedule a visit. Seek medical attention if you notice lumps or ulcers in your mouth or throat.
Improve your eating habits. Include vegetables and fruits at each meal, eat more whole grains, and limit junk food.
Give your dinner a makeover. Limit rich, high-fat foods and finish your meal well before bedtime to lessen the chances of indigestion and gastroesophageal reflux when you lay down to sleep.????
Include physical activity every day to improve your overall health.
Make a committed effort to stop smoking and to give up chewing tobacco. Kicking tobacco is one of the best gifts you can give your body.
